Smith Mechanical Field Services

FAQ

Questions plant managers actually ask.

Travel, emergencies, subcontracting, welding gear, and how a job gets quoted. If the answer depends on a number that has not been set, the page says so.

Do you work on printing presses?

Yes. That is the work we put first. Setup, alignment, mechanical repair, installation, leveling, commissioning, and retrofits on printing and converting equipment.

Do you travel?

Yes. Smith Mechanical Field Services works on-site, wherever your line is. We travel to the plant across California, the West, and nationwide when the job calls for it. An exact mile radius is not published, because that number has not been set.

Do you take emergency calls?

Yes. If the line is down, call or text, and mark the request form as line down now. Line-down work comes first. The phone number on this site is a placeholder until it is replaced, so use the form if the number still reads (000) 000-0000.

Do you work as a sub for OEMs and integrators?

Yes. We work direct for the plant or as a subcontractor for an OEM or integrator. One point of contact, and the advice stays with the equipment you already have.

Do you weld?

Welding is a supporting capability. When a bracket, guard, or frame has to be repaired as part of getting a machine running, we can do that work, including stainless where a food plant needs it, steel, and aluminum.

How do you bill?

We quote the day and the travel per job, before we roll. A day rate and a mileage table are not published on this site yet. Those numbers have not been set. The quote covers the work and the trip.

What should I send with a request?

Your name, the plant, a phone number, the machine type and make or model, how urgent it is, and a short description. A photo helps. If you do not know the make and model, write Unknown.

Can you make a part the OEM no longer sells?

Often, yes. We measure it and make it on a lathe or mill: shafts, bushings, brackets, and other one-off parts. If it cannot be made from what is left, we will say so.
